Bengaluru banned plastic from March 15

Waking up to its duties towards the environment, From March 15 Tuesday, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will seize plastic bags less than 40 microns in thickness.

BBMP commissioner Siddaiah said that BBMP technical staff  will check constanly and test plastic bags under the recommended limit of microns. He said that the Karnataka Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had stated that March 15 is deadline for implementing the Plastic Waster (Management and Handling) Rules 2009.

“While the enforcement authority will be the KSPCB, the BBMP will be responsible for safe collection, segregation, transportation and disposal of plastic,” he said.
